Nephrology is the specialty that deals primarily with diseases of the kidney and urinary tract. These include kidney complications from various conditions such as diabetes, lupus, hypertension, gout and other disorders that selectively affect the kidneys such as nephritis and renal stones. Management of patients with end stage kidney disease with various dialysis procedures and kidney transplantation is a major part of nephrology practice.
The Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at Lubbock includes highly trained and experienced faculty that specialize in management of all forms of kidney disease as well as end stage renal disease. We offer acute and chronic hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and we run a large kidney transplantation program.
We also manage a large number of patients with hypertension and have expertise in evaluating and managing difficult and resistant hypertension. In addition the nephrology faculty at TTUHSC have earned national recognition for pioneering research particularly in the field of hypertension and diabetes.
