What is the Summer Premedical Academy?
Interested in formal medical school preparation? If so, then the Summer Premedical Academy is for you. The program has trained approximately 135 students since 1999, and is becoming a tradition for some Texas universities. The Summer Premedical Academy is not only an excellent opportunity for Texas Tech to show prospective students what we are about, but also to provide dedicated students a prime training program that will solidify the foundation that pre-medical students pursue on their road to becoming a physician.
Students who attend the program will live on the Texas Tech campus and take 5 computer-based practice MCAT exams in 6 weeks.

- Diagnostic Exam
- 5 full-length simulated MCAT exams
- Content and strategy sessions
- 3 review books - Biology, Physical Science, Verbal Reasoning/Writing
- More than 4,000 MCAT-style questions w/ full written explanations
- Video and various multimedia study guides

Although SPA is based primarily on MCAT preparation, there are many other aspects to the program that are essential to an applicant's success when it comes to getting into medical school..
- Mock interviews w/ Admissions Committee members
- Volunteer experiences w/ faculty community (Shadowing of physicians is provided if enough faculty can be provided)

- Assistance with personal statement production
SPA attendees will meet other students that share the same interests and goals in life. Rich and rewarding personal relationships, fostered by the Admissions Office, exist between the students by the end of the experience.
