Upon the completion of this activity the participant should be able to:
  • Describe and discuss at least four ways that first trimester ultrasound can provide important information for the optimal management of pregnancy
  • List the reasons for choosing transvaginal or transabdominal ultrasound (or both) in first trimester obstetrical imaging
  • Explain why the use of some ultrasound modes, including color and power Doppler, should usually be avoided in the first trimester
  • Identify at least three ways in which an ectopic pregnancy may be distinguished from a corpus luteum cyst of pregnancy
