Upon the completion of this activity the participant should be able to:
  • Discuss the pathophysiology and acute initial management of DKA and prevention of complications such as cerebral edema
  • Recognize the action of insulin on the metabolism of carbohydrates, protein and fat
  • Identify the components of transition of medical care after the resolution of diabetic ketoacidosis
  • Recognize the role of psycho-social issues in adolescents with DKA and uncontrolled diabetes
