Family and Community Medicine
Residency Program » Curriculum
The Family Medicine curriculum is designed to help you grow as a physician, refining your clinical skills and pursuing your personal interests through opportunities for scholarly activity and elective rotations.
The first year of residency expands the clinical skills and fund of knowledge established during medical school. Emphasis is placed on the inpatient experience, and you are introduced to the Family Medicine Center where you begin to follow your panel of families, acting as their primary physician.
In the second and third years, you will grow as a family physician, refining your clinical skills and pursuing your personal interests through opportunities for scholarly activity and additional elective rotations.
The second year places emphasis on your expanding role as a family practitioner--serving on the inpatient service, enlarging your practice in the Family Medicine Center, and integrating preventive medicine and behavioral science into your practice style.
The flexible third year allows you to pursue special interests and obtain advanced training in a number of medical and surgical subspecialties. Electives can be arranged to suit your individual needs.
