Research
Research interests include Microbial virulence, germ-free animals, mucosal immunity, and large animal models of human disease.
The LARC provides research support for all investigators using animal models. Current effort is to establish an animal model of Entamoeba histolytica (EH) infection that mimics human intestinal amebiasis in germ-free rodents raised in sterile (axenic) conditions. This includes performing cesarean re-derivation of the common C3H/HeJ mouse sub-strain from conventional housing conditions to sterile isolators. The LARC provides personnel training and consultation in laboratory animal methods and veterinary medicine.
