Biography

Dr. Rial Rolfe, Professor of Microbiology and Immunology, joined the faculty of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at Lubbock in 1981. He was named Assistant Dean for Faculty Development in the School of Medicine in 1998 and was promoted in 2001 to Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Development. In 2005 he assumed the position of Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and three years later was named the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the position he currently holds. Other administrative positions held by Dr. Rolfe at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center include Associate and Interim Chairman of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and Chairman of the Department of Health Organization Management.

Dr. Rolfe received both his undergraduate (B.S., 1974) and graduate degrees (M.S., 1976, and Ph.D., 1978, in Medical Microbiology) from the University of Missouri, Columbia. In 1981 he completed an Infectious Disease fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Rolfe received his Masters in Business Administration (certificate in Health Organization Management) in 1978 from Texas Tech University.

Research

Although no longer active in research Dr. Rolfe maintains an interest in the role of the normal intestinal flora in health and disease, and the pathogenesis, prevention and treatment of Clostridium difficile-associated intestinal disease.
