This web site describes the people, resources, facilities and communities associated with Internal Medicine.

Internal Medicine strongly supports each of the three missions of the School of Medicine education, research and patient care.

Education

We consider the following core competencies to be of the utmost importance, patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism and system-based practice. Our faculty have won many teaching awards and many are members of the Teaching Academy.

Research

Seed grants are available within our department for scholarly activity, which include educational/ learning research, clinical research, translational research and bench research. Many PhD's from various disciplines that work our department to facilitate translational research. Our faculty have won many research awards and are national and international recognized. There are currently five endowed chairs within the Department of Internal Medicine that promote research. We have large collaborative research groups: Texas Tech Cancer Research Group, Center for Renal and Urologic Research Group, Cardiovascular Research Group, GI /ID Research Group. Because the selection of a residency program is a major decision and requires careful consideration, we welcome the opportunity to provide any details about our program that would assist you in your decision-making process. Patient Care
