Eric Blackwell, M.D., has been doing ultrasound at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine since 1977. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine and has served on the Board of Governors of the organization. For many years he was Chairman of the Audiovisual Subcommittee of the AIUM Education Committee, and he still enjoys preparing lectures and web-based ultrasound teaching material. He is working on an internet site devoted to the history of medical ultrasound.
Dr. Blackwell is married to Janis Lucile Elam-Blackwell and has three children: David, Jonathan, and Elizabeth. All are interested in careers in the fields of art or music. Dr. Blackwell's interests include music (piano, organ, flute) and photography. He has recently begun lessons on the Texas Tech 36-bell carillon and says he enjoys playing an instrument which can be heard for a quarter of a mile!
