Preparation of Epikeratophakia Surgical
Protocols (3) and surgical and postoperative care of the initial series
of patients. April 1985-June 1986.
The Wilmer Institute, Johns Hopkins
Hospital:
Metabolism of rabbit corneas as measured with 13C NMR
Spectroscopy under varying environmental and storage media conditions. The
use of superoxide dismutase and various media buffers to prolong donor corneal
storage.
Scanning electron microscopy as an index to corneal
endothelial preservation. An investigation into the morphologic effects on
endothelium of varying preservation times and media substrate and buffer
concentrations.
Texas Tech University Health Sciences
Center:
Effect of streptokinase and urokinase on
vascularization and re-epithelialization of alkali burned corneas. An
animal study in New Zealand White rabbits.
Biomechanical factors affecting post-keratoplasty
astigmatism. An in vitro study using bovine and porcine eyes.
Currently active investigational protocol registered with the
Institutional Review Board.
A clinical study of aphakic
epikeratoplasty. Currently active investigational protocol registered
with the Institutional Review Board.
Pharmacokinetics of collagen shield
contact lenses in humans. An active IRB-approved investigational
protocol evaluating aqueous humor levels at various time frames after a
standardized exposure to collagen contact lenses soaked in various
ocular pharmacotherapeutic agents. A parallel in vitro study will use a
new anterior chamber model.
Antibacterial properties of antiseptics:
a new potential treatment for corneal ulcers. This in vitro work has
demonstrated the effectiveness of two commonly available antiseptics
against common ocular pathogens.
Herpetic Eye Disease Trials (Acyclovir
Prevention Trial). An active IRB-approved investigational protocol as a
test site for the National HEDS Center at Baylor College of Medicine,
Department of Ophthalmology.
