Lubbock combines the ease and convenience of a smaller town with the cultural and recreational opportunities of a large college community. There is very little traffic, you can park everywhere you go, and you can purchase a home on a resident's salary.
In our residency program, the residents not only work together, they also play together. From department wide social events such as the Christmas party, to the impromptu happy hour or BBQ, residents at Texas Tech are a close knit group. We socialize together and support each other through the ups and downs of our personal and professional lives.
Life in Lubbock
Lubbock is an impressive city in the heart of West Texas. The cost of living is low and housing is readily available and affordable. Texas Tech University is located in Lubbock and is home to approximately 25,000 undergraduate students. Texas Tech is a member of the Big 12 Conference so there are plenty of college sports to watch. The university community also has active theater, music and drama programs providing many opportunities for both local and traveling groups to perform. Lubbock is also home to a professional symphony orchestra and a school of classical ballet.
All residents attend the annual retreat in the mountains of New Mexico. The retreat generally occurs in February so that there is plenty of skiing to be enjoyed. The retreat provides an opportunity for all residents to be free of clinical responsibilities and to be together as a group. Spouses and children are invited to participate in this weekend of fun.
There is also a half day retreat in the spring. This time is an opportunity for the residents to discuss the upcoming year and make plans for upcoming social and educational activities.
