20th Alexander Kenny Memorial Lecture - May 12th, 2015
The Alexander Kenny Memorial Lecture took place on May 12th and recognized Dr. Frank Porreca. Dr. Porreca is currently a professor at University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona.
His laboratory has been continuously NIH funded since 1982 and he has over 400 published
articles. Dr. Porreca is the Founder and Scientific organizer of the Spring Pain
Research Conference, which is a premier conference attracting members of the best
pain laboratories and is held every two years.
We are very grateful for the time Dr. Porreca spent on our campus visiting with faculty,

First Annual Translational neuroscience Research Retreat - April 23rd-25th
We recently held the first Annual Translational Neuroscience Research retreat, which took place in Cloudcroft, NM. The retreat was held in The Lodge Resort & Spa. This establishment was originally constructed in 1899 with an interesting historic
story behind it. This retreat provided an opportunity to learn and discuss research
accomplishments, develop future projects and discuss goals and strategies. After
meetings some of our faculty and staff enjoyed activities such as hiking and taking
in the local scenery.

WELcome: Dr. Michiko yasuda - january 2nd
We are happy to welcome Dr. Michiko Yasuda from Japan to our department. Visiting
the labs of Dr. Henderson and Dr. Mahimainathan, Dr. Michiko will be elucidating the
role of translation suppressor, Programmed Cell death 4 in development of endoplasmic
reticulum stress response. Dr. Yasuda's lab is interested in understanding the diverse biological response to various stressors
(light at night, inflammatory stimuli and toxic compounds). Her lab's long term goal
is to identify health protective food factors or nutraceuticals (flavonoids), to prevent
environmental and social stressor induced diseases.
Announcement: Dr. Lisa Popp Accepts appointment in the Department of medical Education

Dr. Lisa Popp has accepted an appointment in the Department of Medical Education at
TTUHSC. We wish Dr. Popp all the best in her new position and role and look forward
to continued interactions.
