Kenny Lectures

Alexander D. KennyDr. Kenny came to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pharmacology in 1976. Over the subsequent seventeen years, he led the Department, striving for excellence in research, teaching, and service.

While his research in bone calcium homeostasis was funded continuously for 32 years by NIH, Dr. Kenny was also the consummate teacher. He took great pride in the accomplishments of medical and graduate students under his tutelage. He always stressed that the Medical Pharmacology Course was the Department's first priority.

Dr. Kenny took great pleasure in the fact that he ran a "democratic department" and often stated that his job as Chair was to identify the worth and value of each faculty member and to recognize the individual contributions made by each. Because of his attitude toward institutional leadership, he was respected not only by his departmental faculty but by the medical school faculty at large.

The Alexander Kenny Memorial Lecture Series and annual medical student achievement award in pharmacology are intended to keep his memory alive. Past lectures are listed below. Alex's obituary appeared in The Pharmacologist and is available here.
