Illness is influenced by multiple psychological and social as well as biological factors causes which the effective psychiatric physician must understand. Developing the ability to practice psychiatry includes a comprehensive understanding of the etiology, manifestation and treatment of mental disorders. A progression of experiences with increasing clinical responsibilities for patient management facilitates the development of this understanding.
