Adjacent to the Health Sciences Center Building is the 365-bed University Medical Center, the primary teaching hospital for the Lubbock campus. The teaching hospital is a focal point for tertiary care in the region and holds designation as a Level-1 regional trauma center, burn center and a regional perinatal center. Facilities include an emergency department, neonatal intensive care unit, pediatric intensive care unit, pediatric intermediate care unit, medical and surgical and cardiac intensive care units and cardiopulmonary function and gastroenterology laboratories.
Residents from the Department of Psychiatry provide consultation/liaison services for all clinical services in University Medical Center.
Covenant Medical Center is the primary in-patient teaching affiliate for the Department of Psychiatry. A 16-bed acute and 23-bed intermediate psychiatry unit at the Covenant Medical Center - Lakeside Campus are key elements in the inpatient education and service program of the department.
