Office of Student Affairs
Academic Assistance
The Office of Student Affairs and Medical Education provides a number of resources that are available for any student experiencing academic difficulty, or for anyone who simply wants to improve their academic performance.
- A program that helps students identify their learning styles and also teaches studying and test-taking skills is presented during First Year Orientation.
- Individual faculty members are available and students are encouraged to seek assistance outside class for additional help.
- The office's Academic Counselor, Karen Nelson, is available to work with individual students in helping to identify causes of academic difficulty and developing a plan to address the problems. The Associate Dean, Dr. McMahon, and the Assistant Dean, Dr. Larsen, are also available for individual academic counseling. Students may also be referred to area specialists if a learning disability is suspected.
- The Office of Student Affairs and Medical Education houses a small library of a variety of review books and study guides for basic science and clinical science courses, as well as resources for USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 preparation. Books are available for check-out for a period of 3 weeks. The library is located in 2B130 and is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
