WHO WE ARE
The Department of Surgery provides comprehensive surgical oncology treatment. This is achieved by:
- The optimal treatment of resection of the tumor and adjacent lymph nodes.
- A coordinated approach with other staff members to formulate a complete plan.
- A strong collaboration between the Departments of Radiation, Medical Oncology, Nutrition, Anesthesiology and Pain Management.
MISSION
The UMC Southwest Cancer Center was surveyed by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, and was re-accredited for the maximum period of three years as a "Teaching Hospital Cancer Program". UMC also is accredited for its Bone Marrow Transplant program by the Foundation for Accreditation of Hematopoietic Cell Therapy and the American College of Bone Marrow Transplant. This accreditation makes the Southwest Cancer Center one of only few hospitals nationwide to receive this honor.
