CINE

Student at ComputerIn May 2004, the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center created a Center for Innovation in Nursing Education (CINE) to provide leadership in designing and implementing new and exciting nursing education initiatives to change the nature and quality of nursing education with the state of Texas throughout the nation.

Texas Tech University Health Science Center School of Nursing is dedicated to the utilization of innovative new educational methodologies resulting in evidence based education. The Center for Innovation in Nursing Education (CINE) provides the structural support to achieve this goal. The Center is specifically designed to build collaborations among educational institutions, employers and the public workforce system, focusing on Central and West Texas. The purpose of the Center is to support models (prototypes) that operationally demonstrate how innovation in nursing education can more efficiently and effectively meet the needs of our health care system, while effectively assisting individuals to enter the nursing profession and migrate up a career ladder. The Center recognizes non-nursing degree attainment and/or previous nursing licensure while providing opportunities to achieve education in professional nursing. Workforce demands require not just more RNs, but RN of the right educational mix and skill to handle the complex demands of the practice world today. This new nurse has an increased complexity of the scope of practice requiring a profession with the capacity to adapt to change (AACN, 2003). Premises for the Center include working together with the community partners, respective expertise, creating unity, and improving the quality of nursing education through evidence based nursing education research.
