Clinical Simulation Center

The School of Nursing's Clinical Simulations Center (CSC) located on the 3rd floor of the Health Sciences Center in Lubbock is an 8,000 square-foot environment.
The CSC is subdivided into several specific but connected areas. The Simulated Hospital Patient Rooms represent the authentic patient care environment of a medical-surgical unit. This area is two rooms subdivided into 13 hospital-type rooms equipped with electronic beds, overbed tables, bedside tables, and chairs.
Additionally, the simulated two bed emergency/intensive care unit has wall suction and oxygen outlets, realistic crash carts with defibrillator and electrocardiogram (EKG) simulator. The emergency/intensive care unit is equipped with the required audio visual equipment to conduct and record high-fidelity simulations. The Simulated Clinic Examination Area, designed to mimic a clinic setting, has two rooms subdivided into 13 additional examination rooms or cubicles. Each state-of-the-art examination room is fully stocked with the supplies and equipment necessary for performing a physical examination. The High Fidelity Simulation Area is composed of two rooms that are home to Sim Baby and Sim Man. Each room is designed to allow faculty to observe the learners' actions through a one-way observation window and have wall and ceiling mounted digital cameras and microphones to allow for event recording in an adjourning control room. Each room has realistic wall suction units, oxygen outlets and bedside networked computers for point of care charting and access to web-based resources. The Apartment Setting includes a living room (that is closed off for debriefing), dining area, bathroom, and kitchen to simulate a home-health setting.
The Clinical Simulations Center is dedicated to providing an active, authentic learning environment for students enrolled in the Health Sciences Center. Student clinical competencies, critical and reflective thinking skills are promoted and evaluated through the integration of the appropriate typology of simulation throughout the discipline specific curricula. Learning activities conducted within the CSC allow the learner to practice and master psychomotor and affective skills prior to patient contact.
