STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS and ACTIVITIES

Nursing students have many opportunities to participate in several school, institutional and professional organizations. In addition there are other frequent activities not requiring membership that students enjoy.

Texas Nursing Students Assoc.

(TNSA) is a pre-professional society. The TTUHSC School of Nursing claims one of the most active chapters in the nation. The chapter has won numerous awards and honors.


Deans’ Advisory Councils

Dean's Advisory Council meeting

promote open communication between students/administration/faculty/staff on ways to improve the educational process. There are three councils: one each for the undergraduate and graduate programs and one for the Odessa campus.

is a forum for student representatives from all TTUHSC schools to have a voice in events and policies affecting student life.

Provides communication/mentoring for graduate nursing students, collaborates with other student groups, and coordinates extra-curricular activities.


Sigma Theta Tau

is the International Honor Society for Nursing. Membership, available by invitation, is based on high academic achievements.

Phi Kappa Phi

an international, interdisciplinary society is also available to nursing students via Texas Tech University.

Each year, students travel to Juarez, Mexico and conduct clinics providing immunizations and basic health care.

Students participated in the Immeasurably More Project, traveling to Port Kaituma, Guyana, to assist with dental and basic health care.

Nursing 4601 (The Nurse as Leader and Manager) requires students to select a setting and work with a nurse manager or clinical charge nurse on promoting a positive change in the setting.

Students actively participant in many community services such as blood pressure checks at a local mall, teaching airport security how to use automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and giving blood to United Blood Services.

The Retention and Excellence in Academics for Disadvantaged Students program also known as READS, provides qualifying students the opportunity to develop close relationships with faculty mentors.

Nursing students assist with hands-on activities as groups of elementary, junior high, and high school students, as well as teachers and counselors, tour the Clinical Simulation Center (CSC).

The Finale!!! In addition to the interdisciplinary graduation held in the United Spirit Arena on the Texas Tech University campus, each graduating class plans and conducts a Graduation Celebration.
