The TTUHSC School of Nursing offers unique opportunities for students who are not registered nurses to receive the latest state-of-the-art nursing education. The school’s Clinical Simulation Center, considered one of the best in the nation, offers students the ability to learn skills using the most current technology. Combined with the expertise of nationally recognized faculty and the opportunity to work with other health care professionals, students receive an education that prepares them to be nursing leaders.

Length of Program
After completion of prerequisite courses, the BSN can be completed in six consecutive semesters with admission once each year during the summer.

Minimum Requirements for Admission Consideration
Listed below are the minimum requirements for admission consideration. Admission to the BSN program is competitive.
New Students
- The online application is available starting December 15, 2007 and closes on February 1, 2008 for Summer II 2008 admission.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required to be considered for admission. All grades earned at all schools attended are calculated in the admission grade point average.
- All pre-nursing courses should be completed with a grade of "C" or better prior to enrollment.
- At time of application submission, applicants must have completed a minimum of 40 credit hours of the required non-nursing prerequisite courses (55 hours total), including at least three of the four required science courses, Chemistry with lab (4 hours), Human A&P I (4 hours), A&P II (4 hours), and/or Microbiology with lab (4 hours).
- Completion of NET test.

Although academic criteria (cumulative GPA, grades earned in science courses, and failed/repeated courses) is an important factor in admission consideration, additional non-academic information is also important. These non-academic factors include but are not limited to:
- Extracurricular activities
- Work experience
- Diversity of experience, such as study abroad, knowledge of
other cultures, proficiency in other languages - Permanent resident of TTUHSC service area county
- First generation college student
- English as a second language
- Socioeconomic status
- Prior enrollment at TTU
- Extenuating circumstances
- Why do you want to become a nurse?
- All applicants will be reviewed in an individual and holistic manner. No single factor will determine a student's admission.
- All applicants who receive offers of admission will be required to consent to a criminal background check. A history of criminal conduct or convictions may result in withdrawal of the admission offer. See "Criminal Background Checks" section of the School of Nursing Student Handbook for the School policy. The Health Sciences Center policy may be found at HSC OP 10.20.
- In addition, the Board of Nurse Examiners has identified certain circumstances that may render a potential candidate ineligible for licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Texas. Update: At this time, TTUHSC is not accepting students that are currently (or previously) enrolled in a Nursing Program at another institution. You may consider applying as a traditional undergraduate student or to the 2nd Degree BSN Program if you currently have a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
Transfer Credit
Generally, credits earned at an accredited college or university are accepted for transfer provided course content is equivalent. A grade below C is not acceptable for transfer credit.
Required Non-Nursing Prerequisite Courses* for BSN
Effective Summer 2005, all undergraduate degree-granting programs at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center require that students meet a TTUHSC-designated Core Curriculum as specified by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. In addition, the School of Nursing will be required to meet Field of Study requirements for Nursing. The TTUHSC Core Requirements and Field of Study for Nursing Requirements must be met for applicants for the Summer 2005 admission cycle.
The pre nursing course requirements listed below should be completed with a grade of C or better in each course. These requirements can be taken at any regionally accredited college or university and should be completed prior to enrollment in the first nursing course. A maximum of 15 semester hours can be earned via credit by examination for non-nursing prerequisite courses.

Application Information
Although the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing is a part of the Texas Tech University System, legally it is a separate institution from Texas Tech University and therefore application for admission must be made directly to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
