Second Degree Web-Based BSN (2° w/BSN) Undergraduate Program
Texas Tech Health Sciences Center School of Nursing (TTUHSC SON) offers a second degree web-based accelerated baccalaureate nursing degree (2° w/BSN) program for students with a previous college degree. The BSN nurse is prepared to meet the challenges of a complex and changing healthcare environment in the 21st century. This twelve month web based program has preceptor and nurse educator oversight in the student's own communities in the Austin/Hill Country and Lubbock/West Texas areas. About the Center>>

Length of Program
After completion of prerequisite courses, the 2° w/BSN is completed in one year.
Minimum Requirements for Admission Consideration
Listed below are the minimum requirements for admission consideration. Admission to this program is competitive. Criteria for selection of students will include:
- A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
- A personal interview
- Basic computer skills
- Basic life support and AED training (CPR)
- GPA of 3.0 or higher, with specific emphasis on science GPA above 3.0 (GPA is a strong predictor of NCLEX success)
- Completion of pathophysiology and all required general education courses as a pre-requisite for admission
- Certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant prior to admission;
- Evidence of completion of a Medical Terminology course - transcript or certificate (online Short Course suggestions may be obtained from the 2° Coordinator)
- A commitment to not seek employment during the accelerated educational process (consisting of 50 weeks)
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): Students whose predominant tongue is not English must also present a score of at least 550 (paper exam), 213 (computer exam), or 79 (internet) on the TOEFL. (This includes permanent residents of the US.) The TOEFL requirement may be waived if the student has graduated from a US high school with a minimum of two years attendance or if the student is a citizen of a country where English is the native language. Applicants holding degrees from US colleges and/or universities are not required to submit TOEFL scores. Information concerning the TOEFL may be obtained from Educational Testing Service, P.O. Box 899, Princeton, New Jersey 08540, US, or their website - www.toefl.org.
All applicants who receive offers of admission will be required to consent to a criminal background check. A history of criminal conduct or convictions may result in withdrawal of the admission offer. See "Criminal Background Checks" section of the School of Nursing Student Handbook for the School policy.

2° w/BSN Program Goals
The 2° w/BSN Program goals are derived from the mission of the TTUHSC School of Nursing as well as the organizing framework for the program. The program goals are to:
- Prepare graduates to provide and direct care to individuals, families and communities with complex health care needs in structured and unstructured settings (Texas Board of Nurse Examiners, 2002).
- Prepare graduates with a professional commitment to nursing excellence for present and emerging healthcare arenas.
- Provide a foundation for future graduate education in nursing.

Application Information
Although the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing is a part of the Texas Tech University System, legally it is a separate institution from Texas Tech University and therefore application for admission must be made directly to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
Apply March 1 - June 1 to start class in August

The 61 credit hour program tuition and fees total approximately $17,500.00.
Financial aid loans and scholarships
Almost all applications require the completion of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Complete that form on-line, at www.ttuhsc.edu/financialaid/home.html. Complete that at the same time you are filling out the TTUHSC School of Nursing 2° w/BSN application so there is adequate time for processing. Having the FAFSA on file will be beneficial for further processing of administrative paperwork associated with any type of monetary assistance.
