Biomedical Sciences

From the day the doors first opened at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Pharmacy (SOP), the basic sciences have played an important role in the school’s development. In the fall of 2009, this role was further emphasized by the formation of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, which is an instrumental component of the SOP’s Pharm.D. program and the TTUHSC Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

Department faculty members are responsible for teaching Pharm.D. students the basic biomedical sciences subjects, including biochemistry, physiology, immunology, genetics, microbiology and biostatistics. They also provide instruction in advanced patho-physiology and molecular physiology.

The department is presently comprised of 18 faculty members whose research interests include cancer biology, cancer chemoprevention and therapy, immunology and immunotherapy, vascular pathophysiology, renal molecular physiology, signal transduction, cell and molecular biology, neurobiology, natural products and pharmacognosy, proteomics and transcriptomics.
