The Chair's Welcome
The Department of Biomedical Sciences at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Pharmacy (SOP) is committed to supporting and delivering modern comprehensive education in pharmacy and biomedical sciences. This department together with the SOP’s Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Department of Pharmacy Practice offer two training tracks: the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) as part of the SOP’s professional pharmacy program; and the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) as part of the TTUHSC Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Because of their integrated training in biomedical and pharmaceutical science, our graduates have excellent career opportunities with academic institutions, the biomedical and pharmaceutical industries and with governmental agencies.
The research conducted by the Department of Biomedical Sciences should fuel the frontend discovery engine for drugable targets through the understanding of the cellular and molecular biology of patho-physiological systems and for novel chemical and biological drug leads. Our department motto for research is “new department, new biology, new targets and new drug leads.”
The major research interests and expertise of our current faculty include:
- Cancer cellular and molecular biology
- Cancer chemoprevention
- Cancer therapeutics and drug resistance
- Vascular and renal pathophysiology
- Signal transduction and development
- Epilepsy and neurobiology
- Molecular and digital pathology
- Proteomics and transcriptomics
- Natural products and pharmacognosy
I invite you to visit our department through our website or through direct contact via telephone or email. We value your input that is aimed at improving our education, research and service. I also invite you to apply for any available faculty, staff or trainee positions within our growing department.
