Bio Ms. Nelson is a founding faculty member in the Department of Pharmacy Practice. She is currently a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Mananged Healthcare. She received her B.S. degree from the University of Iowa.

Research Interests:

Ms. Nelson is involved in outcomes research in the area of managed healthcare. Her current projects include: evaluating the effectiveness of interferon/ribavirin therapy in the correctional care setting and assessing the outcomes of an antipsychotic switch program.

Practice Focus: Ms. Nelson is one of four founding members in the Managed Healthcare Pharmacy Services Division. Her practice setting is within the northwest sector of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice
(TDCJ) system. She has established clinics under physician supervised protocol in the areas of asthma, COPD, and hypertension. She also has 15 years of experience in psychiatry and assists in management of these patients. Ms. Nelson provides nonformulary consultations for several TDCJ prisons within the northwest sector.

Professional Service: Ms. Nelson was appointed to the Jan Werner Board of Directors in April, 2002. She is co-chairperson for the Community Smoking Cessation Committee for Tobacco Free Amarillo.She also serves as a member of the Tobacco Free Amarillo's Speakers Bureau.
