| Bio | Dr. Alvarez is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy and an Advanced Practice Clinical Pharmacist in Primary Care at the VA Medical Center in Dallas. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy in 2004 and Master of Science in Advanced Pharmacotherapeutics and Research from The University of Texas at Austin in 2006. In conjunction with his M.S. degree, Dr. Alvarez completed a two-year Pharmacotherapy residency at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Dr. Alvarez is responsible for didactic clerkship teaching of Pharm.D. students and supervises their activities at the VA hospital Primary Care Clinics in Dallas. |
Education:
Dr. Alvarez received his Doctor of Pharmacy from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy in 2004.
Dr. Alvarez received his Master of Science in Advanced Pharmacotherapeutics and Research from The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy in 2006.
In conjunction with his M.S. degree, Dr. Alvarez completed a two-year Pharmacotherapy residency at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.

Research Interests:
Dr. Alvarez’s areas of research interest are in the management of patients with the syndrome of insulin resistance, the prevention of diabetes, and the treatment of lipid disorders in the primary care setting.
Practice Focus:
Dr. Alvarez’s works in a multidisciplinary team to reduce complications associated with diabetes mellitus, hypertension, dyslipidemia and thyroid disorders at the VA medical center in Dallas.
Professional Service:
He is an active member of American College of Clinical Pharmacy, American Society of Health System Pharmacists, American Pharmaceutical Association, National Lipid Association, and the American Diabetes Association.
