The meeting was called to order by Chair Dr. Reza Mehvar. Members present were Drs. Kenneth McCall, Marge Weis, Kalkunte Srivenugopal, Teresa Shih, and Craig Cox.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the issues encountered thus far in the curricular mapping process. Dr. Mehvar advised that the fall and spring syllabi are now on a CD, which has been provided to each committee member. There are four syllabi missing, we will get those and provide to committee members.

Dispensing Pharmaceuticals was reported on by Reza Mehvar and Craig Cox. The appropriate courses for this category include PC1 and PC2 lab, DDS courses and labs, parenterals, and pharmacokinetics. Craig Cox reported that he also had spoken with the students to inquire about the DP ability statements that may be covered in 4th year clerkship/rotations. Social and Administrative Sciences (SA) and Professionalism (PR) are also assigned to Reza and Craig. For SA, the courses which are listed in the "Curriculum Breakdown by Area" will be used as an initial basis for mapping. For PR, there are not any specific courses, but experiential courses and bootcamp will be used as starting points. We need the help of faculty in this area more than any other category.

For Communication and Problems Solving categories, which are assigned to Jeanie Jaramillo and Marge Weis, PC1, PC2, PC2 lab, Grand Rounds, DIC clerkship, CAP, case studies and experiential (clerkships/rotations) courses will be used as the starting point. In Jeanie's absence a short report was given by Marge on their status. It was suggested that we get input from faculty for identification of courses that would address these ability statements.

Basic Sciences and Pharmaceutical Care ability statements are being reviewed by Teresa, Venu and Mac. They will present their report at the next meeting.

It was discussed that after initial mapping, each committee member should contact team leaders of courses assigned for verification and also resolving questions.

In terms of required vs. elective, Dr. Mehvar advised that we should concentrate on the required courses first and then move on to the electives. However, required abilities MUST be covered in required courses. The elective courses may complement the required courses or may cover additional abilities that are not required as part of minimum competencies.

The next meeting of Curricular Affairs will be on Friday September 19 at 2:30 pm in Room 112M.
