Review/Approval of Minutes

The minutes of the February 13 meeting will be presented for approval at the next CAC meeting

Revised Proposal for Systematic Review of the Curriculum by CAC

The second draft of the proposal for systematic curricula review was discussed.. Recommended reinstituting the post-course review on a regular basis. Would require the course coordinator to submit post course review and to the CAC and the Department Chairs and would include their suggestions for changes in the course and would include changes their team made to the course in the current year. Reports would be requested 30 days after course completion.

Dr. Haase advised that she had met with the Dean to discuss curricular overhaul and his vision for curriculum review. The CAC process for curriculum review will be presented to the Executive Committee for feedback.

Course Content Evaluation / APM Issues

Dr. Mehvar reported his evaluation of each P1 course and Dr. Bouma reported on the evaluation of the P2 courses. Dr. McCall deferred his report on P3 courses and will submit to members by e-mail. Particular attention was given to the number of lectures, lab times, class discussion/participation time and differences according to catalog description and semester credit hours.

Dr. Haase will draft letter outlining the issues raised from this course review and specific definitions of pre-lab lectures, active learning and class discussion. Classes identified as potentially deficient or requiring clarification in the P1 and 2 years: 1300 (Bootcamp), 1100 (CAP), 1170 (DI Clerkship), 1514 (Anatomy), 1235 (ECEP), 1301 (PCI), 2203 (PCII Lab), 2104 (Parenterals), 3257 (Endocrine), 3361 (Case Studies I).

Course Review (by submission)

The request for change in catalog description from the PHAR 1301 Pharm Care I team was reviewed and discussed together with the proposal for change in course description of the PHAR 2203 PCII lab, including the history of PCI and PCII and respective labs and how the two courses have evolved and changed through the various team leaders. Much discussion followed, including input from student CAC members Kenny Cole and Amanda Kay and review of the 2001 alumni survey, previous course syllabi, mission, and objectives, and course evaluations. It is apparent that there has been major content revision in the PC 2 lab course what is listed in the catalog description.

The CAC's recommendation is to support the PC1 request for change in course/catalog description with modification (specifically changing the 3-hour laboratory to a 2-hour discussion) and to encourage consistent use of the two-hour time block for active student discussion sessions.

CAC voted to not support the proposal to modify the catalog for PC II lab. CAC will recommend formation of a Pharmacy Practice multi-course review team to review and revamp content across the Pharmacy Practice Course sequence based upon required compentency sets from our catalog and ACPE. CAC will charge the focus group to develop a specific list of items that should be taught and in which course. CAC will draft a letter to the teaching teams submitting the request outlining the committee's recommendation and develop a charge to the focus group.

HIPPA Inclusion in Coursework

Maumi Villarreal has volunteered to review and address this issue through the hospital practice management selective.

For next meeting: There are 6 clerkships that need to be reviewed and approved. One semester credit hour equals 40 contact hours for a clerkship. Each committee member volunteered to take a clerkship for review and will report at the next CAC meeting

The meeting was adjourned.
