Dean Nelson called the meeting to order.
- Announcements
- Dean Nelson gave an update on President Wilson’s recent Executive Retreat
- President Wilson wanted to focus on three priority areas at the Retreat
- Where do we want to go,
- How will we get there, and
- Where are we now.
- Research.
- School of Medicine, School of Pharmacy and School of Graduate of Biomedical Sciences should be NIH funded research.
- President expects all four institutions to be involved in diversity and service to rural population groups and ethnic groups, and access to health care issues.
- Critical that each school must develop own strategy related to the priority areas.
- Quality education of students is the #1 priority.
- NIH funding to increase three folds in next five years.
- Reduce contributions to charitable organizations.
- Possible new name for TTUHSC.
- Texas Tech Health Sciences University
- Texas Tech Medical Sciences University
- Vision and Mission Statement Development
- El Paso Medical School
- Roundtable
- Chuck Seifert
- Next Thursday space proposal can go forward for the new pharmacy.
- SECC Awards for Lubbock SOP (1) Highest per cent contribution for department, (2) Highest single contribution.

- Orientation for incoming P3 students tomorrow.
- Starting classes on August 16.
- David Allen
- Coordinating peer review teaching process.
- Sherry Luedtke
- Student organization back to school picnic scheduled for August 27.
- Finalizing Career Fair.
- Scheduling Dean’s Student Advisory Council Retreat.
- Coordinating Convocation seminars. Suggested scheduling the Convocation seminars less frequently. Possibly the student organizations could provide the speaker.

- Today is final day for Boot Camp.
- New printers are in Lubbock.
- New scanner has been installed at SOP in Amarillo.
- Medical Services contract for students completed.
- Oath Ceremony very successful.
- Thomas Thekkumkara
- First week of September is deadline for submission of the Seed Grants.
- Confocal microscope has been installed in the basement. Training will start next week.
- Research Workshop scheduled for September 7, 2004. Dr. Thomas Davis will be speaker at the workshop.
- Reorganized web pages should be functional by first of January 2005.
- Suspended research contract with Dr. Sandberg.
- Dr. Trey Putnam will be the Unit Safety Officer in Dallas SOP.
- Roland Patry
- Pharmacy on HSC campus in Lubbock will be completed by January 2005.
- Moving the pharmacy to temporary quarters on first floor on El Paso campus.
- Working with purchasing and Dr. Pence on access to prescription drugs controlled substances.
