Catalog Description:
Course Mission: PHARP 0333 will provide the Doctor of Pharmacy candidate with a fast paced review of drug information associated with each drug class. This course will seek to provide the student with specific clinical knowledge and pearls and more confidence as they enter their 4th year rotations and into the practice of pharmacy.

Course Objectives: Upon completion of the course, and when presented with a specific medication, the candidate will be able to: 1) identify both the brand and generic names; 2) discuss the therapeutic class and indications; 3) describe important warnings and precautions; 4) identify common adverse reactions; 5) discuss important drug interactions; 6) describe important storage, preparation or administration information to a patient or other health care provider; 7) list the controlled substance category and DEA rules for dispensing (when appropriate); 8) describe the usual dosage; 9) explain any appropriate clinical pearls.
Teaching Methods: The course will be taught in a interactive lecture format.
Attendance: The course instructor guarantees that this course will be taught unlike ANY other course that you have had. Your attendance is strongly encouraged.
Overview of Examination Schedule: A quiz will be administered at the beginning of each Wednesday. The final is TBA.
Assessment Methods: There will be six quizzes given during this course. Each quiz will be administered at the beginning of the Wednesday lecture and will last for approximately 10 - 15 minutes. Quizzes will be cumulative.
Grading: Each quiz is worth 10% of the final grade. The cumulative final will be worth 40% of the grade. As it is important for the pharmacist to correctly identify sound alike and look alike medications, spelling will count. On quizzes - two points will be deducted for each incorrectly spelled medication. On the final, one point will be deducted per incorrectly spelled medication.
Second Chance Policy: The Second Chance Policy applies to all courses except clerkships and case studies courses. A doctor of pharmacy student who earns a course grade of 60-69% is eligible to take a single comprehensive examination to demonstrate competency in that course. The student will receive a course grade of 70% if s/he achieves 70% or greater on the comprehensive assessment. Failing to do so, the student will receive the original course grade. A student may invoke the Second Chance Policy in a maximum of two courses per semester, and no more than four times total in his/her career at the School. The second chance assessment shall occur in a timely fashion, the timing at the discretion of the course team.

Candidate Disability: Any student who, because of a disability, may require special arrangements in order to meet course requirements should contact the Teaching Team within 1 week of the beginning of this course to make the necessary accommodations.
Ethical Standards: The ethics standards for the School of Pharmacy and the APhA Code of Ethics is in effect for all components of this course. Candidates found to be in violation of ethical standards will receive zero (0) points for the course in question and will be reported to the Credentialling and Student Affairs Committees of the School of Pharmacy.
Missed Examination Policy: There will be no make up exams (quizzes for this course). If an exam is missed, the final exam will be weighted more heavily.
