The Department is committed to modern comprehensive education in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, offering two training tracks: the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), as part of professional pharmacy program of the School of Pharmacy, and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Pharmaceutical Sciences, as part of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences of TTUHSC. Our graduates, because of their integrated training in biomedical and pharmaceutical science, have excellent job opportunities in academic institutions, in healthcare, biomedical and pharmaceutical industries, and in governmental agencies.

The research focus of the Department is on cutting-edge pharmaceutical sciences, integrating multi-disciplinary research approaches to the discovery, development, and delivery of novel therapeutics. Our research goals are to provide a better understanding of the pathophysiology of disease and the mechanisms of action for existing and novel therapeutics, to identify novel molecular targets for disease prevention and treatment, and to discover, evaluate and develop novel therapies, and to translate basic discoveries to clinical practice. The major research interests/expertise of the current faculty include:

·Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics

·Clinical Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics

·Biochemical and Molecular Pharmacology

·Molecular Physiology and Pathophysiology

·Cell and Molecular Biology

·Molecular and General Toxicology

·Immunology and Immunotherapy
