Admissions and Programs
Doctor of Pharmacy Program
Application
Dear Applicant:
We are pleased that you have expressed an interest in studying Pharmacy at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. We are proud of our program, faculty and facilities.
Your application will be assessed based on the following criteria. To be eligible for review, each applicant will have an adjusted pre-pharmacy grade point average (GPA) on prior academic courses calculated. We adjust the GPA by considering only the last grade attained if you repeat a course. For example, if you received a grade of "C" the first time you took organic chemistry, then repeated the course with a grade of "A", the "C" grade will not be included in calculating your adjusted GPA. This process allows students to demonstrate competency in a course, rather than be penalized by retaining the lower grade in calculating your GPA. Courses completed prior to seven years previous to admission date can only be accepted with special approval. Please provide your request in email format (click here). Please complete the Course Work section of the online application prior to sending your e-mail. Provide phone number contact information as well as work and school information since you took the courses.
The criteria used in the admission review process include the pre-pharmacy GPA and taking the Pharmacy College Admission Test as well as all information available in making individual admission decisions. Only courses with a grade of "C" or better will satisfy the pre-pharmacy requirements.
To be considered for admission review, all of the following documents to complete a file must be received in the Student Services Office (Click here for "Important Dates" for specific deadlines.):
- Official Transcript(s) from each regionally accredited U.S. College or University attended.
(A course-by-course evaluation is required on any courses from outside the U.S. only if they are used for prerequisites. If you do not use any courses from a foreign transcript for prerequisites, then an evaluation is not required.) - Completed Application Form (this online form that you are currently entering-International Students must also complete a supplemental application.)
- Pharmacy Experience Essay (as part of this online application)
- Non-Refundable Application Fee of $100.00 (please be sure your social security number is on your check)
- Three letters of reference on Texas Tech School of Pharmacy forms (can be downloaded from this online application)
- Pharmacy College Admissions Test Scores (official scores must be received from the Psychological Corporation by the deadline date)
- Scores may not be older than 2 years.
Early Admission Review
Students who have demonstrated significant academic achievement through grade point average and who will complete both the pre-pharmacy and general education requirements by the end of the Spring 2008 semester may receive an early admission review. For an early admission review, your PCAT must be taken by October prior to the deadline. To be reviewed, all your admission documents (including your final transcript for the Fall 2007 semester) must be postmarked by the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center by January 7, 2008. If you are accepted for early admission review, you may be invited for an on-campus interview in January/February with invitations for early admission offers being extended by March 31, 2008. If you are not accepted for an early admission review, or if you are not offered an early admission decision, you will be automatically included in the regular admission review. Applying for an early admissions review can only help your chances for admission. Not being accepted for an early review will have no effect on your application for a regular admission review.
Regular Admission Review
The deadline for regular admission review is March 1 of each year. Your application will not be considered unless all documents have been received by the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center by the March 1 deadline. Official PCAT scores are required from the Harcourt Assessment. General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, General Physics, General Biology, Microbiology, and Calculus must be completed by May 31 of the year for which you are applying. All remaining prerequisites and general education requirements must be completed by July 31 prior to enrollment .
Once your documents are processed, we may invite you to schedule an appointment for an on-campus visit. The on-campus interview will include personal interviews with a faculty member and a student, a creative writing exercise, a critical thinking skills test, and a group problem solving assessment. Applicants will be given a tour of the building and minimum specifications for the required laptop will be discussed. Plan on your interview day lasting at least seven hours. The purpose of the interview is to give you an opportunity to personally present your unique qualifications and see if our program will meet your needs. You are responsible for your own transportation, accommodations, and meals.
Admission to pharmacy schools is competitive. Please see Student Statistics for more information. We strongly urge students to make applications to several programs.
Please feel free to call Mike Schwettmann, Director of Admissions, or me directly, if you have any questions. A pre-interview counseling session with the Director of Admissions is always welcomed. Please call (806) 354-5457 to arrange an appointment.
Sincerely,
