SOP Research Days 2014

Greetings from the Office of Sciences and the Research Advisory Committee!

Please mark your calendar! The School of Pharmacy Thirteenth Annual Research Days has been scheduled for June 5 – 6, 2014 at the Amarillo Civic Center – Heritage Room. This event is a wonderful opportunity for researchers from the School of Pharmacy to come together from all four campuses to talk about research and build collaborations and friendships.

Administrative support for the event will be handled by Office of Sciences staff. The tentative plan is to begin the program with registration at 9:00 am on June 5th and conclude by 3:10 pm on June 6th following the awards presentation. The program is being handled by the Research Advisory Committee; if you have any questions, please contact the committee chair, Dr. Maciej Markiewski

Travel Notes

Department Travel Coordinators for Abilene, Dallas and Lubbock Campuses: Your assistance with travel issues will be greatly appreciated!

The Office of Sciences will reimburse airport parking, airfare, hotel, rental car and fuel costs for participants traveling from Dallas, and hotel, rental car and fuel costs for those traveling from Abilene and Lubbock. We ask that travel coordinators at each distant campus department be prepared to coordinate rental vehicles and also process travel applications and vouchers for Research Days attendees traveling from their respective campuses.

Department travel coordinators may contact Lynn Finkenbinder for the FOP when ready to prepare travel applications and for assistance, if needed, in determining mileage reimbursement amounts in order to stay in compliance with SOP OP 79.P.06.

Dallas Attendees: Air reservations are due to your department travel coordinator by Tuesday, April 22.

Listed below are some suggested flights which will get you to Amarillo for the opening ceremony on Thursday, June 5th and then back to Dallas by 8:00 pm on Friday evening. Please reserve your flights ASAP to get the cheapest rates available.

Southwest Airlines:
6/5 – flight #553 departing Dallas 6:50 am; arriving Amarillo 8:00 am
6/6 – flight #57 departing Amarillo 6:50 pm; arriving Dallas 7:55 pm

American Airlines:
6/5 – flight #2511 departing Dallas 7:30 am; arriving Amarillo 8:40 am
6/6 – flight #3067 departing Amarillo 4:35 pm; arriving Dallas 5:50 pm

Please work with your department travel coordinator to reserve a minimum number of rental vehicles at the Amarillo airport.

Meals during the conference in Amarillo will be provided; however, you will be on your own for any food costs while traveling.

Lodging expenses will be covered (2 individuals per room). This expense should be included for reimbursement on the travel application and voucher. If a single room is preferred, please be aware that only one-half the cost will be reimbursed and remember to communicate this preference to the department travel coordinator.

 

Lubbock/Abilene Attendees: Please work with your department travel coordinator to arrange transportation using the “Four-Per-Car Rule” cited in HSC Travel OP 79.06, while also abiding by “Faculty & Staff Travel Between Campuses” SOP OP 79.P.06.

Abstracts

Abstracts are limited to a word count of 300.
Submission Deadline: Tuesday, April 15.

Poster/Podium Presentation Information

The Research Advisory Committee will select individuals to give podium presentations from abstract submissions. Those abstracts not selected for podium presentation will be eligible for a poster presentation for which "Outstanding Poster Presentation" awards will be given in the following four (4) categories:

  • Senior Graduate and PharmD Students OR Research Associates (3rd Year & above)
  • Junior Graduate and PharmD Students OR Research Associates (1st or 2nd Year)
  • Postdoctoral Research Associates (PhD or equivalent)
  • Residents

PLEASE NOTE: Attendance at the awards ceremony is required in order to receive an award.

Registration

Poster Printing Information

  • Procedures have been established with several vendors who have agreed to print 2014 Research Days posters – see details including submission deadlines at the Poster Printing Vendor Options link for your campus below.
  • Amarillo, Dallas & Lubbock: The School will cover the cost of printing ONE poster for each primary presenter up to $37 each.
  • Abilene: The maximum coverage is $42.50: The maximum coverage is $42.50.
  • Payment details are included on the Poster Printing Vendor Options for each campus.

    PLEASE NOTE:

    If your printing costs are more than the allotment, you are responsible for paying the difference when you pick up your poster.

    Using a personal credit card to pay for the full cost of your printing is highly discouraged; reimbursement is time consuming and will not be a priority.

  • Instructions for sizing in PowerPoint (both PC and MAC) can be found at the Poster Size Instructions link below.
  • Posters must be converted to a PDF format after sizing and prior to submitting to the vendor for printing.
  • A POSTER PRINTING VOUCHER (Link below) must be submitted along with the print job to Amarillo vendors.
  • Deadlines for submission vary, so please pay attention to the detailed information for each vendor.
  • Posters should be submitted for printing as early as possible to avoid last minute delays caused by unforeseen circumstances.
  • Dallas, Abilene and Lubbock participants who need the Office of Sciences to pick up a poster from an Amarillo vendor must submit by Tuesday, May 27 for Monday, June 2nd pickup. ALSO, email Lynn Finkenbinder by May 27 to make arrangements for poster pick-up.

Annual Dinner at the Amarillo Club (ADULTS ONLY PLEASE!)
