Welcome to AlcoholEdu®
Dear Red Raider,
You have already made many important decisions regarding your education. Here at Texas Tech you will be making many more. Your ability to learn and strive for honor is enhanced when you are a member of a safe and healthy community. As part of our comprehensive alcohol harm prevention program, Texas Tech requires each new first year freshman who graduated from high school in 2008 to complete AlcoholEdu® for College - an online, non-opinionated alcohol prevention program.
This course uses research-based approaches to educate students about alcohol and its effects. Whether you drink or not, AlcoholEdu® for College will help you make well-informed decisions about alcohol and better manage drinking behavior that may occur around you.
The course has two sections, both of which must be completed to fulfill this requirement:
- The first part of the course takes about 2.5 hours to complete and we recommend that you take it in multiple sittings. This section ends with an exam and survey. You must earn a grade of 70% or higher to pass the course. The course will be available starting July 23, 2008. The deadline for finishing this section of the course is August 17, 2008.
- After you have been on campus for a few weeks, you will receive an email asking you to complete the second section of the course. This section will take about 15 minutes. The deadline for completing this section of the course is October 20, 2008.
All responses are confidential; Texas Tech University staff will never see individual students' answers. You can feel confident that providing truthful answers - no matter what they are - will not put you at any risk for repercussions.
Please look in the mail within the next few weeks for a postcard that will explain all login instructions. Note that in order to take AlcoholEdu® for College, you will need a computer with Internet access and audio capabilities. If you do not have ready access to a computer, you may try using a computer at a local library, copy center or community center.
Should you have any questions, please contact Amanda Eldredge, Health Educator, Student Health Services at alcoholedu@ttuhsc.edu. Again, welcome to Texas Tech. We look forward to seeing you on campus this fall.
Sincerely,
