Dear New Member of the Red Raider Family,

You have already made many important decisions regarding your education. At Texas Tech you will be making many more. At college, there are times to say no. This isn’t one of them. As part of maintaining a safe and healthy community that enhances your ability to learn and make well-informed decisions, Texas Tech requires each first-year freshman to complete AlcoholEdu®, an online, interactive course designed to educate you about alcohol and its effects— both physical and mental.

The AlcoholEdu® course has two sections. Both must be completed to fulfill this requirement:

  • Part 1 of the course takes about 2.5 hours to complete. We recommend that you take it in multiple sittings. This section ends with an exam and survey. You must earn a grade of 70% or higher to pass the course. The course will be available starting July 25, 2011. The deadline for finishing this section of the course is August 22, 2011.

  • After you have been on campus for a few weeks, you will receive an email asking you to complete Part 2 of the course. This section will take about 15 minutes. You must complete this section by October 21, 2011.

All responses are confidential; Texas Tech University staff will never see individual students’ answers. You can feel confident that providing truthful answers – no matter what they are – will not put you at risk in any way.

To take AlcoholEdu®, you will need a computer with Internet access and audio capabilities. Please look for further information regarding login instructions beginning July 2011. Welcome to Texas Tech and we look forward to seeing you on campus this fall! If you have any further questions, please contact the Delia Tibbs, Health Educator, Student Health Services, at 806-743-2844 x 290 or alcoholedu@ttuhsc.edu .
