Hispanic Serving Institution
The vision of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is to transform health care through innovation and collaboration. With more than fifty years of passion and excellence in educating aspiring health professionals, and serving our communities with quality care, we never waiver from our ambition to create a better tomorrow.
In 2022, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center took a significant step in that mission as the Department of Education officially recognized TTUHSC as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI).
The Hispanic-Serving Institution designation is granted to eligible institutions of higher education with an enrollment of undergraduate full-time Hispanic students greater than 25%, in addition to other criteria set by the Department of Education that promotes accessibility and affordability to traditionally underrepresented communities.
This status positions TTUHSC among 569 colleges and universities across the nation that have been designated as an HSI, and one of just three comprehensive health sciences centers in Texas to also be recognized as an HSI.
As an HSI, the university is actively strengthening its ongoing efforts to recruit and support traditionally underrepresented students, grow more diversified faculty, and better serve our communities as a premier health care institution.
The university now also has accessibility to specific funding through the Department of Education under Title III and Title V of the Higher Education Act of 1965 to promote these initiatives.
As a Hispanic-Serving Institution, and guided by our values-based culture, TTUHSC continues to take thoughtful, innovative, and inclusive steps forward as we train the next generation of health care providers that will serve a more diverse population across Texas. This is a proud moment in our journey and we believe it underscores the vision of our institution to transform health care through innovation and collaboration.
