SUBJECT: CONTINUING INFORMATION ON SPECIAL REGISTERING
The following is further information concerning countries being required to do special registration. I have also included the articles in the Federal Register dealing with the special registration. In the future I will be posting all this information on the web. You will need to go to www.ttuhsc.edu , then enter the Human Resources site, and then the immigration site. All further immigration information will be posted there. If you have questions please contact me.
The Department of Justice, Immigration & Naturalization Service, published a notice in the Federal Register expanding the number of countries subject to special registration procedures. In addition to Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan, and Syria, nationals or citizens of Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Eritrea, Lebanon, Morocco, North Korea, Oman, Qatar, Somalia, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates or Yemen, born before 12/2/86, is in nonimmigrant status and intends to remain in the U.S. beyond 1/10/03 are required to register with the local District Office of INS. This applies to dual citizens as well.
Willful failure to comply constitutes a failure to maintain nonimmigrant status and the individual is subject to deportation as well as being inadmissible in the future. Therefore, if you fall within the criteria outlined above, it is critically important that you comply with the registration procedures.
