Dr. Fakhrul Ahsan is a University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Pharmacy in Amarillo, Texas. A pharmacist by training, he earned his pharmacy degree from the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh. He received his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics in 1999 from Complutense University of Madrid, and his postdoctoral training from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He joined TTUHSC in 2001 as an Assistant Professor, went through the rank of Associate Professor with tenure, and was promoted to Full Professor in 2016. TTUHSC recognized his excellence as an educator and investigator by awarding him with the President’s Young Investigator Award in 2004. Dr. Ahsan has also been the Program Advisor for the Graduate Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences since 2012. In 2015, the University awarded him the title of University Distinguished Professor–the highest honor TTUHSC bestows to a faculty member. Dr. Ahsan’s research revolves around the development of novel formulations for the pulmonary delivery of small- and large-molecular-weight therapeutic agents for the treatment of respiratory disorders, including asthma and pulmonary hypertension. He is also working on microfluidic chips and lung-tissue engineering. He is a member of the Editorial Boards of the European Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and was an Associate Editor of the Journal of Drug Targeting. Dr. Ahsan is an NIH-funded investigator, and has received three R15s and one R01 grant. He also serves in various NIH and DoD study sections.
