Samuel Prien, Ph.d. is the director of the clinical and research laboratories and a professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He also holds joint appointment as associate professor of Animal and Food Sciences on the main campus of Texas Tech University and in the Department Of Physiology at TTUHSC. He received his Ph.D. from Texas Tech University in 1991 in reproductive physiology.
Dr. Prien is a board certified high-complexity clinical laboratory director and is certified in both clinical andrology and embryology. In addition to his general clinical laboratory work, Dr. Prien works directly with our generalists and reproductive endocrinologist in the treatment of infertility patients as part of the assisted reproductive technology program.
Dr. Prien conducts physiology based research in a number of areas, both animal and human. He has received numerous grants (from private, industrial and state sources), has published over 60 journal articles and has made over 150 presentations of his work at regional, national and international meetings. Dr. Prien also serves as a reviewer of abstracts, papers and grants for a number of groups. Additionally, he currently holds three U.S. patents with others pending.
