The purpose of the staff senate is to function as an advisory body in making recommendations on issues affecting institutional governance in a manner that contributes to the overall success of the TTUHSC and fosters unity and cooperation among staff employees. My past work experience includes working as a nurse in multiple roles (staff, head nurse, clinical instructor, research nurse) in various settings (inpatient, outpatient). I have been employed as director of the Amarillo Institutional Review Board for eight years. This is an administrative staff position and requires me to interact with a variety of faculty, staff and volunteers. It requires being knowledgeable of federal, state and TTUHSC policy and processes to effectively assist the TTUHSC volunteer board members in their review of human research projects. I also serve as resource for the faculty and staff conducting the research. I am in a supportive role and research decisions are made by the board or researchers. I believe this work experience contributes to understanding the advisory role of a staff senate member.
