TEXAS TECH PHYSICIANS OF ABILENE FAMILY HEALTH CENTER
Texas Tech Physicians of Abilene is an outreach clinic of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine, based in Lubbock, Texas. The clinic operates under the Department of Community and Family Medicine. Board-certified Family Medicine physicians complimented by a nurse practitioner are dedicated to providing family medical care in an environment that promotes quality and trust. Our physicians are devoted to the care and treatment of the entire family. They care for children of all ages in addition to adults and the elderly. As family physicians they provide personal, convenient, and cost effective full service family medicine, physical exams, medical history evaluations, check-ups for children and adults, family-centered obstetrics and newborn care, gynecology, in-patient hospital care, geriatric assessment and immunizations.
The Family Medicine Residents care for the elderly in the local non-profit nursing homes. Our Family Medicine residents and the Texas Tech Physicians of Abilene Family Health Center provide a medical home for many people in the community who don't have a regular physician and their only other point of access to medical care would be the Trauma Center. They are the primary care physician providing continuity of care for pregnant women and their unborn children to ensure these women deliver healthy babies. The physicians continue to provide health care for these patients at the family health center through follow-up appointments after their release from the hospital.
We offer Fast-Track Clinics where people with a minor emergency or an acute illness can receive a same day appointment. This service is utilized not only by our own patients, but by people who do not have a physician or their physician can not see them the same day. We have developed a relationship with Dyess AFB, and they refer military members and their families to us for urgent care needs.
We are excited about the relationship we have with the Texas Tech School of Pharmacy and the Disease State Management Clinics we are offering at the family health center. Our providers refer patients who are diabetic, often with poor sugar control and lacking an understanding of their disease process, to this clinic for monitoring and education as well as medication management by Doctors of Pharmacy from the Texas Tech School of Pharmacy. This management of diabetes results in longer, healthier lives for people who are afflicted with this disease. With the success of the diabetes clinic we are now offering clinics for hypertension and anticoagulation.
The Texas Tech Physicians of Abilene provides health services at no charge for the students enrolled in the Texas Tech School of Pharmacy and who have paid the student health fees as part of their tuition and fees. Our providers see the students for immunizations, sudden illnesses, routine office visits, pap smears, injuries, and emergencies.
