The central administration is located in the Preston Smith Library of the Health Sciences in Lubbock. Public services and library collections, however, are dispersed among the four Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center campuses in Lubbock, Amarillo, El Paso and Odessa. Each library collection is tailored to the needs of its particular campus, inasmuch as the program distribution is different for each of the four campuses. Thus, collections and services at Amarillo are designed to address the needs of the Schools of Medicine, Allied Health and Pharmacy; those at El Paso serve the School of Medicine; those at Lubbock serve the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Allied Health, Pharmacy and Graduate Biomedical Sciences; while those collections and services at Odessa exist to meet the needs of the Schools of Nursing, Allied Health and, to a limited extent, Medicine. Library services for medical residency programs are supported at all four sites, while pharmacy residency programs are supported at the Amarillo and Lubbock libraries. The four campus libraries actually form one library in four locations. All four libraries of the TTUHSC library system share equally in the delivery of extramural outreach services to the 108-county area of West Texas. This is a huge area stretching from the Oklahoma border on the north, to Mexico on the south, to Central Texas on the east, and to New Mexico on the west. With the exception of the information provided to them by the TTUHSC library system, there is little in terms of biomedical information support for health care practitioners, hospitals, clinics and the general public throughout this area.
