What is an Employee Assistance Program?
An EAP is a helping program that enhances a healthy work attitude by providing employers and their employees the opportunity to manage life's problems before they become serious and impair work performance. It provides employees the opportunity to seek treatment for specific problems such as depression, anxiety, and marital/family problems.

- Individual, couple and family counseling
- Health & wellness seminars and information
- 24-hour crisis helpline/hotline
- Tobacco use counseling
- Outpatient substance abuse services (Some contracts do not include this benefit -- Call 743-1-EAP for details)
Who Can Use the Employee Assistance Program?
The EAP is for all employees who strive to maintain a healthy and productive attitude in their work and personal lives. Employees and anyone living in their household are eligible to use EAP services. The program is a benefit provided by the employer at NO cost to the employee. Think of it as a partnership between the employer and employee to insure a better and safer workplace.
Employees can voluntarily access EAP services. The services are private, professional and confidential.
Is the Employee Assistance Program Confidential?
Absolutely! No information is released to employers or supervisors concerning an employee's identity or the nature of their problem. Visits to the EAP are not recorded as part of the employee's personnel record or medical records.
Is the Employee Assistance Program Easy to Use?
Simply call (806) 743-1EAP or 1-(800) 327-0328 and ask for an appointment with an EAP counselor. For your convenience, daytime and evening appointments are available Monday through Friday. A session with an EAP counselor can usually be scheduled within a couple of days of the initial call.
How Much Does it Cost to Use the Employee Assistance Program?
There is no cost to the employee for EAP visits--EAP resources are provided as a benefit to employees, by the employer.
Where is the Employee Assistance Program Located?
The EAP is housed in the West end of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, which is on 4th Street between Indiana Avenue and Memphis Avenue. Driving Directions to the HSC
From the light on 4th Street and Memphis, go south on Memphis and take the first left onto 5th Street. Follow the signs to "Patient & Visitor Parking" and park as close to the Academic Classroom Building (ACB) as possible (lot D1 is closest). Parking Map for the EAP
Walk around the west (right) side of the ACB and through the courtyard between the ACB and the HSC to the entrance labeled West Wing. After a hallway, there will be a door on the left labeled Neuropsychiatry; the EAP is located in the Neuropsychiatry department. Enter this waiting room (1C102) and let the receptionist know that you are an EAP client and the name of the counselor you are scheduled to see. If it is your first session, try to arrive 15-20 minutes early because you will be asked to complete a brief questionnaire before you see your counselor.
