Area of Work: Community Outreach and Education, GET FiT, Community Health Data
About: I am a graduate from Texas Tech University.  I am a coordinator at the Garrison Institute on Aging’s Community Outreach and Education department. While working on the Transforming Texas Grant for the Lubbock and Hale communities I worked on many activities, which included: community gardens, walking/biking trails, the Farmer’s Market at TTUHSC, GET FiT contests, webinar preparation for the GET FiT program, and creating Dining Guides and Resource Guides for the community.  I am still involved in many of those areas mentioned earlier but they now include working on the Texas Healthy Communities grant which is a program that requires gathering data from Lubbock County to assess the nine priority community-based policy, systems, and environmental change indicators that are vital to reducing the burden of heart disease and stroke.  Lubbock is my home and being able help create a healthy community makes my job meaningful.
