Science Exploration Academy (SEA) Summer Camp
"That's a real brain? It's my turn to take your blood pressure. I learned what my blood type is! That's what the inside of my ear looks like? ", are just a few of the many comments frequently heard from our students who participate in the Center for International and Multicultural Affairs Science Exploration Academy (SEA) Summer Camp.
A science camp held each summer for incoming 6th graders (middle school) is an outstanding partnership between Dunbar Math and Science Academy and the Center for International and Multicultural Affairs at TTUHSC. The camp for 2009 was held June 29 through July 3, 2009. The week-long camp is designed to increase awareness and interest in science and health by introducing middle school students to various medical subjects, curriculum, experiments, and a visit to Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) where they will meet several health professionals, including the President of TTUHSC. We give them the opportunity to see up close a first class and top notch health care work and teaching environment at the Lubbock campus of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
Additional funding is needed to expand this worthwhile community project, SEA to other schools in Lubbock.
