Junxuan (Johnny) Lu, PhD, is Professor and Chairperson, Department of Biomedical Sciences at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy since January 2011. He received B.S. in Biochemistry (1982) from Wuhan University, The People's Republic of China and PhD in Animal Science/Nutrition (1989) from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, where he also completed post-doctoral work in Nutritional Biochemistry (Dept of Poultry &Avian Sciences) and Molecular and Cell Biology (Section of Biochem, Mol Cell Bio). He did cancer chemoprevention research at AMC Cancer Research Center, Denver, CO and Hormel Institute, University of Minnesota, Austin, MN with selenium compounds and herbal natural products for nearly 2 decades before joining Texas Tech School of Pharmacy. His current research is funded by grants from National Institutes of Health (NCI, NCCAM). He collaborates with researchers at University of Minnesota, University of Illinois-Chicago, China Agricultural University, Beijing University School of Pharmacy (China), and HyungHee University, Korea.

Research Interests

Cancer chemoprevention, selenium, Oriental herbal extracts and compounds, natural products, angiogenesis, apoptosis, signal transduction, cell cycle regulation, prostate and mammary carcinogenesis, androgen and estrogen receptor signaling; Proteomics-iTRAQ; Biomarkers, cancer stem cells
