Application Process
The Department of Family Medicine only accepts applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service ( ERAS). Information about the service may be obtained from your Dean's Office or from the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC). International medical graduates may obtain information about ERAS through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). All applicants must be eligible for licensure in the state of Texas. Licensure requirements may be found by visiting the Texas Medical Board. International medical graduates must have a current certification through ECFMG.
Application Requirements

Curriculum vitae and letters of recommendation should fully account for the time since medical school graduation. Graduation must be within ten years. Applicants must be a US Citizen or green card holder. We do not sponsor Visa's. Foreign medical graduates are required to have completed one year of US clinical experience.
Application Deadline
Application deadline for the 2009-2010 academic year is February 6, 2009. Applications will not be accepted after this date.
Resident Selection Process
The Department of Family Medicine has established a resident recruitment committee, which consists of the Family Medicine Residency Program Director, Residency Coordinator, and Residency Secretary, to assist with the initial screening of resident applicants for interview through National Residency Matching Program.
Interview Process
Candidates will be given a tour of Medical Center Hospital and the Family Medicine Clinic. Then you will have lunch with a family medicine resident. That afternoon two to three faculty members of the department will interview each candidate for approximately thirty minutes each. A standardized evaluation is submitted to The resident recruitment committee by each faculty and resident member you met with during your interview date. We will only interview up to 65 candidates for 6 positions. A one night hotel stay the night before your interview will be provided, along with a two-hundred and fifty dollar reimbursement apart from the hotel cost for the first 65 candidates.
Rank Order Process
Evaluation scores are tallied and reviewed by the residency recruitment committee. The committee meets one week prior to the deadline for submission of a rank order list to the National Resident Matching Program. Applicants are ranked through the combined input of committee members.
