Jamal Islam, M.D.
Dr Jamal Islam is an Associate Professor and Research Director for the Department
of Family and Community Medicine. He received his medical degree from University of
Dhaka in Bangladesh. He then earned a Masters of Science degree in epidemiology from
the University of Texas at Houston. Later, he completed a family medicine residency
at State University of New York Health Sciences Center in Brooklyn.
Prior to joining Texas Tech, Dr. Islam worked as a faculty member in the family medicine
department at UTMB in Galveston for 10 years. During his career, Dr. Islam has been
involved in over twenty-five clinical research projects and published 13 articles.
In addition, Dr. Islam has over 25 state, national, and international poster presentations
to his credit. Dr Islam is board certified in Family Medicine. He is a member of the
American Academy of Family Physicians, Texas Academy of Family Physicians, and Society
of Teachers of Family Medicine.
Since joining Texas Tech in November 2007, Dr. Islam has been actively involved in
developing research and scholarly activities for the residents in the family medicine
department. Dr. Islam recently earned an institutional grant to develop a research
and problem-based learning curriculum for the family medicine department.
