Financial Counseling
Financial Assistance Programs
The Surgery Department of Texas Tech Physicians of the Permian Basin understands the stress of costs incurred when unexpected surgery arises. The surgery department works in conjunction with area programs such as Medicaid and the Ector County Hospital District Assistance to help with the cost of surgery. The E.C.H.D.A, if you qualify, will assist with the hospital stay, but the patient will still be responsible for the surgeons fees. The Texas Tech Physicians of the Permian Basin also have a program through the Women's Health Clinic called B.C.C.C.S which helps women get their clinical breast exams and mammograms to detect abnormalities. After further testing is done then referral is given to a general surgeon. Please contact our OB/GYN department for more information on requirements and enrollment. These programs often have an application process so please allow processing time before scheduling an appointment.
Insured Patients
Texas Tech Physicians of the Permian Basin accepts most insurance types. Please check with your insurance carrier to determine your deductibles and co-insurance. The financial counselor will verify your insurance should you need or want surgery. All deductibles and patient portion will be required to be paid prior to surgery.
Discounts Available
If you are needing surgery and are unsure about the cost the surgery department has a financial counselor in the office to speak with each patient about their situation. The surgery department offers a 40% discount on all surgical services in office and outpatient. All elective surgeries will be required to be paid in full prior to surgery.
Medical Necessity
Each case is different and the surgeon determines the level of medical necessity on each patient when consulted. Each level of necessity determines the level of payment required.
- Level I - This is the highest level of necessity. Payment will be expected, but not required due to the medical urgency; however a signed financial agreement will be set up for payments. The discount would not apply unless paid in full. For example any surgery needed to diagnose or treat malignancies.
- Level II - This is moderate level of necessity. Payment is expected in full or will need a sizeable down payment depending on price of procedure. Down payments will be applied to the full price of the procedure and a financial agreement signed to pay the balance in payments.
- Level III - This is strictly an elective procedure and does not affect the patient medically. This would include screening colonoscopies. Payments would be due before surgery in full with the 40% discount.
