C. Neal Ellis, M.D. graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1984. He received his graduate training in General Surgery in Birmingham, AL and in Colorectal Surgery at Louisiana State University, Shreveport. He is board certified in General and Colorectal Surgery and has a Certificate of Added Qualification in Surgical Critical Care. Dr. Ellis is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the American College of Gastroenterology. Currently he is a Professor and the Regional Chairman of the Department of Surgery, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at the Permian Basin in Odessa, TX. He is a member of numerous medical societies and holds leadership positions in the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), the American College of Gastroenterology and is a past president of the International Society of Laparoscopic Colon and Rectal Surgery. He is the editor of two books and the author or co-author of over 80 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and invited manuscripts. He had given over 100 presentations in both national and international academic settings on a variety of topics including fistula in ano, parastomal hernia, pelvic floor disease and genetics.
