Smooth Sailing on the Airwaves
A Guide to Remote Podcast Interviews
Thank you for agreeing to be a guest on Texas Tech Health Check! We are only as good as our experts and we’re excited for you to share your insights and tips on health care. This guide will help us ensure a smooth and informative interview experience for you. Reminder: This is an audio only recording.
Pre-Interview:
- Scheduling and Confirmation: You will receive a calendar invite with a link to Cleanfeed.
- Interview Questions: Expect a separate email a few days before the interview with 6-8 questions.
- (Optional) Background: Feel free to send us a short bio, preferred title and name pronunciation and whether or not you’re an alumnus of TTUHSC.
Day of Interview:
- Setup: Find a quiet location with minimal background noise for optimal audio quality.
- Mic Check: Connect the external microphone (which we will provide) to your laptop or desktop computer. You might have to adjust your sound settings on your operating systems preference and select “external microphone” or Shure MV5. Set the microphone 12 inches in front of your mouth. (We will let you know if you need to set it closer when we do a mic check.)
- Sound Check: Connect the headphones directly into the back of the microphone. (We will provide both). Set your output sound settings to external headphones. Use the headphones
- Connect: Using a Chrome browser, click on the Cleanfeed link.
- Talk! Our producer will ask you to do a microphone check to make sure you sound your best.
- Questions or Concerns? If you have any questions about what we’ll be asking or if you want to clarify something, let us know at this time. Remember: It is not a live interview, and we will pause (and later edit) if you need to stop for a moment, restart or rephrase your answer or take time to refer to any notes (see Additional Tips: No. 3).
- Let the Interview Commence: We’ll start by welcoming you to the podcast and proceed with the questions.
- Thank You For Being Our Guest: We’ll let you know when we’ll post the episode and if you have any additional ideas for topics, please let us know anytime.
- Return Equipment: Please pack the microphone and headphones back into the case and return to ____.
Additional Tips:
- Feel free to take short breaks if needed and let us know.
- We encourage your enthusiasm and expertise to shine through!
- We recommend digital notes on your phone or computer because the sound of papers shuffling will come through, and it’s difficult to clean up.
